Summary/Objective
The Trauma Program Manager is responsible for the coordination of
comprehensive and integrated care for the trauma patient from
prevention through discharge. Has the authority and responsibility
to monitor trauma patient care from the Emergency Department
admission through operative intervention(s), ICU care,
stabilization, rehabilitation care and discharge and including the
Trauma PI program. The TPM acts as a liaison with appropriate
agencies or activities specific to the Trauma Program. The primary
goal of the TPM is to improve the quality of trauma patient care,
directly as a member of the trauma team and indirectly in the roles
of consultant, change agent, educator and quality improvement
agent. The TPM collaborates closely with the Medical Staff,
Administration, Ancillary Department Heads, Nursing Staff and
Pre-Hospital personnel to facilitate the ongoing team approach to
the care of the trauma patient.

A. Assessment: the registered nurse collects comprehensive data
pertinent to the patient's health or the situation.
B. Diagnosis: the registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to
determine the diagnoses or issues.
C. Outcomes Identification: the registered nurse identifies
expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the
situation.
D. Planning: the registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes
strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
E. Implementation: the registered nurse implements the identified
plan, coordinates care delivery, employs strategies to promote
health and a safe environment.
F. Evaluation: the registered nurse evaluates progress toward
attainment of outcomes.
G. Quality of Practice: the registered nurse systematically
enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Essential Job Duties

* Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized,
goal-directed, nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing
assessments regarding the health status of the patient, making
nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the strategy of care,
developing a plan of care based on the assessment and nursing
diagnosis, implementing nursing care, and evaluating the patient's
responses to nursing interventions.
* Make assignments others that take into consideration patient
safety and that are commensurate with the educational preparation,
experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the
person to whom the assignments are made (in compliance with the
Texas Nurse Practice Act).Maintains required documentation of
patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
* Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason
to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by
consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying
the ordering practitioner when the nurse makes the decision not to
administer the medication or treatment.Know the rationale for and
the effects of medications and treatments and shall correctly
administer the same to promote a safe environment for patients and
others.
* Ensures compliance with DSHS standards as a Level IV Trauma
Center.Participates in the development and implementation of
patient care protocols, P&P and recommendations concerning
trauma patient care.Performs concurrent and/or retro chart audits
on patients admitted in the ED with traumatic diagnosis. Monitors
patients from admission to discharge or transfer for medical
necessity of procedures and/or appropriate treatment while
identifying problems requiring committee resolution.
* Enters or supervises entry of necessary data into the Trauma
Registry and reviews statistics.Coordinates trauma program services
with other patient care services. Responsible for review of all
necessary information and required forms on all trauma diagnosis
and transfers.
* Active participant of the local RAC-R.Promotes the benefits of an
organized trauma service system to professional and community
groups.Participates in community educational programs, interacts
with local EMS community, participation in the TTCF (Texas Trauma
Coordinator's Forum).
Required Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
3 - 5 years related experience
Required License/Certifications
Current RN License in the state of Texas
BLS certification
ACLS certification
PALS or ENPC certification
TNCC certification
