Job Summary / Basic Function:Job Summary:The Instructor for
Governments responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
providing instruction for students enrolled in Texas and Federal
Government courses (along with other related courses and topics) in
the General Education and Developmental Studies Department,
including dual credit high school students. This individual is also
responsible for maintaining office hours; and teaching extended day
classes, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and
at alternate locations. This individual attends workshops,
seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills and assists in
the development of curriculum, as needed; All LIT faculty are
responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving
the Institutes Shared Vision of Growth and
Excellence.Duties/Responsibilities:
- Actively engage students in the learning process
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior
- Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and
procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures
Manual
- Participate in college service, which includes but is not
limited to, committee work, advising and/or tutoring students, and
recruiting
- Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required
by the department (might include day, evening, weekend, and Early
College High School/dual credit), including online courses
- Provide mentorship to dual credit instructors and students
- Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance
teaching skills
- Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
- Maintain knowledge of national, state, and local statutes as
they apply to government courses
- Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core
Curriculum
- Assist in the development of curriculum, as needed
- Perform other related duties, as requiredPhysical
Requirements:This position requires the ability to: remain in a
stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about
inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.;
constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a
printer or copy machine.Minimum Qualifications:Minimum
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Government/Political Science or Masters
degree with 18 graduate hours in Government/Political Science
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Possess good time management skillsPreferred

- Experience teaching in higher education
- Experience in national, state, or local government or
politics
- Doctorate degree in subject area
- Related field and/or industry
