Summary/Objective
The RN Clinical Flow Coordinator facilitates Departmental
operations through the coordination and supervision of direct
patient care in the Emergency Department. This position is
responsible for ensuring that professional nursing care and related
assistance is provided to patients of any age group presenting to
the facility. The Clinical Flow Coordinator provides direction to
and is a resource for all Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel
in providing direct patient care. The RN Clinical Flow Coordinator
supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the
Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the
Hospital.
ANA Standards of Practice.
A. Assessment: the registered nurse collects comprehensive data
pertinent to the patient's health or the situation.
B. Diagnosis: the registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to
determine the diagnoses or issues.
C. Outcomes Identification: the registered nurse identifies
expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the
situation.
D. Planning: the registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes
strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
E. Implementation: the registered nurse implements the identified
plan, coordinates care delivery, employs strategies to promote
health and a safe environment.
F. Evaluation: the registered nurse evaluates progress toward
attainment of outcomes.
G. Quality of Practice: the registered nurse systematically
enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice
Essential Job Duties

* Facilitates Departmental operations through the coordination and
supervision of direct patient care in the Emergency Department.This
individual assists in appropriate allocation of nursing personnel
on a daily basis to meet patient care requirements in collaboration
with the Administrative or Nurse Director of the Emergency
Department.
* Makes decisions independently in areas of responsibility based on
Administrative operational standards and coordinates Hospital
operations in the absence of the Administrative Director and/or
Nurse Director of Emergency Services.
* Maintains appropriate communication channels with all levels of
personnel for continuity of care. Notifies directors/designee of
particular problems related to patients, families, personnel, or
physicians.Communicates effectively with physicians and authorities
from other agencies regarding patient care needs and/or hospital
problems--i.e., Police Department, Fire Department, Coroner's
Office, Emergency Medical Services, supplemental staffing agencies,
and other hospitals.
* Utilizes advanced knowledge of nursing theory and clinical
practice in assessing patient care needs and making appropriate
decisions.Adapts general procedural knowledge and maintains
awareness of current developments, evidence based practice and
trends in nursing research with a focus on the specific patient
population and current situation in which they are involved to
determine specific actions/protocols to be utilized.
* Utilizes a systematic approach to assist staff nurses in the
provision of individualized, goal-directed, nursing care by
performing comprehensive nursing assessments as needed regarding
the health status of the patient. Developing nursing diagnoses that
serve as the basis for the strategy of care, and assisting in the
review and revision of the plan of care based on the assessment and
nursing diagnosis to ensure that appropriate nursing care is
implemented and evaluates the patient's responses to nursing
interventions.
* Make assignments to others that take into consideration patient
safety and that are commensurate with the educational preparation,
experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the
person to whom the assignments are made. Delegates tasks to
unlicensed personnel in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice
Act.
Required Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN required
Current Emergency Nursing experience with focus on supervision,
required.
Required License/Certifications
Current verification of competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
including newborn and pediatric resuscitation required with ACLS,
PALS/ENPC,TNCC, CEN within 18 months of employment.
