Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to
join our team at Christus Health. As a Surgical Technologist, you
will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our
Operating Room department.Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and caring for preoperative patients,
maintaining aseptic techniques, and monitoring situations that
could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
- Provide comfort and support for preoperative patients,
demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.
- Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite,
positioning them according to the type of surgery.
- Identify and care for biological specimens, prepare the
Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies
according to the type of case.
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies:
Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Under the direction of a professional nurse, perform all
processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and
assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical
procedure.
- Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and
sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the
physician.
- Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when
pulling cases and setting up the OR.
- Ensure that preference cards are kept up to date and as
complete as possible.
- Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the
patient, cooperate in team planning and execution, and maintain a
safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic
practices.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all
surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, adhere to Universal
Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient
care situations.
- Monitor and control the surgical environment, maintain proper
traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation
policies and procedures.
- Familiar with facility policy and procedure regarding
decontamination, processing, and sterilization of all instruments
and supplies that are processed within the facility.
- Perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that
meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients
served by the department.Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of the Surgical Technology program or an accredited
LVN/LPN program is required.
- 2 or more years of experience preferred.
- BLS required.
- Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board
of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of
graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
