Job DescriptionThe Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing
the overall shift operations and the activities of Shift Operations
personnel. The Shift Supervisor may assume the responsibilities of
the Operations Manager (Chief Engineer) in their absence.PRIMARY
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Ensure the plant and associated
equipment are operated in compliance with applicable regulations,
procedures and policies2. Be the central point of
control/communication during process, safety, etc. incidents.
Coordinate First Responders, etc. as applicable3. Administer the
plant Lock Out/Tag Out and safe work permitting to ensure tasks are
completed safely and documented correctly4. Implement safety
programs and lead operating crew members to adopt safe work
practices; 5. Help develop and approve operating procedures6.
Perform plant rounds and effectively communicate plant operating
instructions and status to the Operators and maintenance
personnel7. Manage the performance of Operations personnel8.
Encourage, mentor and coach Operators members to increase their
knowledge, experience and to complete/upgrade their
qualifications9. Assist the Operations Manager in the oversight of
daily plant operations and plant scheduling manpower loading and
maintenance scheduling10. Exercise sound judgment and take timely
actions as needed to ensure personnel safety and the facility
remains in compliance with regulations, policies and procedures to
prevent equipment damage11. Troubleshoot operational problems,
provide input into solutions and initiate maintenance requests12.
Assess risks posed by identified problems and ensure management and
other plant personnel are made aware of those risks13. Perform
other duties related to operations including assisting with
maintenance planning and coordination, training of operators,
investigating 'loss' events and developing/reviewing procedures14.
Complete required logs and reports15. All other related
tasks.Qualificationseducation / Experience / Background
Bilingualism (spoken and written). Minimum of ten years of directly
related operating and supervisory experience Supervisory background
in an electrical generating facility is preferred Experience with
DCS and CEMS operation is a requirement of this role. Prior
commissioning experience is an asset The position requires a broad
background in plant operations including at least ten (10) years in
operations and five (5) years of supervision of power plant
operations personnelKnowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge of
mechanical, electrical, and piping systems; implementation of
plant-wide initiatives, and follow through Evidence of solid
leadership ability with a willingness to serve as an active team
member Strong supervisory capability and ability to work with teams
effectively within a changing environment Ability to work
effectively in conjunction with a variety of people and departments
experience in labor relations, working in a union environment, and
with the trades Commitment to customer service/satisfaction and
workplace excellence Ability to remain flexible, problem-solve
effectively, and apply fair and consistent conflict resolution
skills; high degree of professionalism Ability to take and give
direction, and work independently as well as a member of a team;
detail oriented; ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
work effectively An entrepreneurial, results-oriented attitude, a
willingness to acquire new skills and utilize technology to
streamline processes, a desire to improve reliability and equipment
output and longevity, and the ability to troubleshoot and
problem-solve creatively, are essential Solid computer skills:
proficiency with database, spreadsheet, email, and word processing
software required; Microsoft Office and Windows preferred.Required
Certification / Licenses / Training The candidate will possess a
valid BC Interprovincial Second Class Power Engineer's Certificate
of Competency General knowledge and experience in industrial safety
are required. Will be necessary to possess or obtain First Aid
