Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Chemist III The Chemist III will
analyze samples using complex instrumentation such as, but not
limited to, GC, GC-MS, IC, TOC analyzer, Spectrophotometer, ICP,
ICP-MS, and Mercury Analyzers using CVAA and CVAFD technology. The
Chemist III will also provide peer assistance with maintenance and
troubleshooting of instruments, and assist in the development of
new methods or modifications to procedures. This individual will
have experience and background performing environmental tests
beyond education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare
and/or analyze samples according to approved test methods and SOPs
using complex instrumentation. Prepare standard solutions and
reagents for use in testing. Work directly with Lab Manager to
ensure accurate, timely, and complete results are provided on all
samples. Perform basic and complex instrument or equipment
maintenance and repair as needed. Utilize LIMS (Promium Element)
functions including generating queries to monitor and prioritize
analyses. Assist with performing secondary review of laboratory
results, logbooks, etc. Review laboratory SOPs as needed. Assist
with troubleshooting equipment and testing problems within the
laboratory. Provide training of fellow peers as needed. Responsible
for general housekeeping in his/her work area including maintaining
supplies. Performs sensitive or special technical assignments as
required. Develops new analytical procedures to expand laboratory
capability. Aid in identification of systematic problems within the
laboratory including documentation of incidents and corrective
action, if necessary. Qualifications: BS/BA in Chemistry,
Environmental Science, or other related field, or equivalent
directly related experience (two years of directly related industry
experience is equivalent to one full-time year of college in
related major). Minimum 4 years bench level experience in a
laboratory setting, NELAP preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities: Strong industry specific computer skills including
Element Promium. Regulatory programs such as TNI/NELAP. Laboratory
testing techniques including environmental methodologies and QA
requirements associated. Excellent verbal and written communication
skills. Knowledge of laboratory safety policies. Possession of good
organization skills; detail oriented with the ability to multi-task
and have problem solving capabilities. Ability to work irregularly
scheduled hours including overtime and weekends if necessary. Other
Requirements: Vision sufficient to read and interpret chemical and
reagent labels, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, laws,
spreadsheets, computer screens and print outs, business
correspondence, and other documents encountered in the course of
work. Hearing sufficient to hear conversation levels in person and
telephone. Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood
in front of groups, over the telephone, in meetings, and training
sessions. Mobility sufficient to safely move in an environmental
laboratory. Dexterity sufficient to safely operate office equipment
including computers and specialized tools and equipment utilized in
the course of work. Strength sufficient to safely lift and carry
sample containers, office supplies, materials, equipment, and other
related materials weighing up to 20 pounds. Endurance sufficient to
stand and bend from the waist for longs periods up to 100% of an 8
hour day. Work Environment: Primarily in a climate-controlled
office setting within the laboratory. Involves exposure to odors,
fumes, hazardous chemicals, and acids requiring the use of safety
glasses, aprons, gloves, face shields, and a fume hood.
